Buzz Buzz Buzz: Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean has been one of the more bloggable artists in the past few weeks, due both to his personal and professional life, and his “debut” album (not counting nostalgia, ultra, his terrific mixtape) channel ORANGE was released last week. Check out a beautiful performance of “Bad Religion” on Jimmy Fallon below.

MeebNOOOOO

I am displeased to announce that my inaugural post centers around the saddest news I have heard since I found out there would be no new Harry Potter books. Meebo, both your and my favorite way to communicate with (read: harass) on-air dj’s, is shutting down on July 11th. This news has sunk me into a deep existential crisis, a darkness, if you will, from which there can be no escape.

To truly express my sadness I bring you the Bingo Players Cry (Just a little) the Tobtok remix

And to lift me from this seemingly bottomless abyss, one of many new Hot Chip songs (tickets still available for the Prospect Park concert on July 18th)

How I feel about this whole Meebo ordeal

Well, you four and half people who may read this, I hope you enjoy yourselves tomorrow and maybe you’ll be listening to these toonzZ. Then again, maybe not, and in that case go flux yaself.

your companion in meebo grieving,

majorcager

New Album from Curumin – “Arrocha”

Curumin is a Brazilian artist who I’ve been following since his first album, “Achados E Perdidos.” ¬†Brought up in the samba/bossa nova tradition, he adds into the mix hip-hop, funk, and electronic music to make for a really unique sound. His new album, “Arrocha,” takes all that to new heights, jumping around from hip-hop instrumentals (“Blimblim”) to bass-heavy dub (“Treme Terra”) to upbeat reggae (“Vestido de prata”) and back to some of his traditional samba/funk-rock sound (“Passarinho”). Stream it from Soundcloud below!

David Byrne & St. Vincent – First Single, “Who”

Wow! This is¬†really interesting and good. The saxophones give an already upbeat song a quirky feel, and St. Vincent brings in an element of the mysterious with her well-proven vocal chops. Despite the creepy album cover, you should definitely go the collaborative album’s website HERE where you can download “Who”. I’m already looking forward to the album’s release, September 11th!
