So many favorite songs, but this one’s always been at the top. The original played by The Only Band That Matters.
Two musical legends died this week. If you only know Etta James from the sample in Flo Rida’s song, you’re missing out. And Johnny Otis did as much or more for music by who he discovered (that would be Miss James) than by his biggest hit (yeah, that’s a Bo Diddley riff he’s borrowing). They’ll be missed.
One of the best drummers in any genre passed away last Friday. He’d played with one band his whole life: NRBQ, the best band in the world no one’s ever heard of. I’ve seen them over two dozen times, and they were a blast every time. Tommy was a super nice guy, too.
This seems like a good song to start the day off, don’t you think? A classic from 1974 about radio in Massachusetts! Hey, that’s WCFM!
